Beginning years
Fishburne was born to Hattie Bell Crawford, (a junior high school science and mathematics teacher), and Laurence John Fishburne, Jr., (a juvenile corrections officer). After his parents divorced, he lived with his mother and was brought up in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from the Lincoln Square Academy in New York (which is now closed since the 1980s). He is of African – American descent.
Career
At the age of twelve, Fishburne’s acting stated with his first gig, portraying Joshua Hall on the Soap opera One Life to Live in 1973.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

After William Petersen left the popular crime show CSI, Laurence Fishburne replaced him to lead the characters of the show. He joins the show from the ninth season (22nd January, 2009) as Dr. Raymond Langston, who is a former pathologist and a college professor. His specialty is his understanding of criminal’s tendency to commit crime. This character was first introduced as a consultant on a case and then made to join the CSI team. Once, at a hospital where Langston used to practice, a co-worker killed twenty seven patients, but he never was able to figure the evidence out. These demons of the past still haunt him at times.
Personal life
In Ethopia, Laurence married actress Hajna Moss in 1985 and they have two children too, Langston (born 1997), Montana (1991), but the couple got divorces in mid 1990s. Then on 20th September, 2002, Fishburne married Gina Torres, an actress and they have two children, JC Boaz and Delilah (born June 2007). Although he lives in Mew Rochelle, New York, he also has a residence in the Castle Village section of Washington Heights, New York City. Laurence is a huge fan of author Paulo Coelho and desires to make a movie on his best selling novel The Alchemist.
Honors

On 24th February, 2007, Harvard Foundation honored him with the title Artist of the Year at the annual show Cultural Rhythms for proficiency as an actor and for charitable works. Laurence is also a UNICEF ambassador and also a proud recipient of the key to the city from the Mayor Kenneth Reeves of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He won an Emmy award in 1993 in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work in TriBeCa and another in 1997 for his work in Miss Evers' Boys in the category Outstanding Made for Television Movie. He was nominated a couple of times more as well. In 1997 for Miss Evers' Boys in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini-Series or Television Special and in 1996 in the category Outstanding Actor in a Mini-Series or Television Special for his work in The Tuskegee Airmen.
In 1992 he was awarded the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his work in Two Trains Running.
He won three NAACP Image awards. The first came in 1996 as Outstanding Lead Actor in a TV Movie for The Tuskegee Airmen. Then in 1998 in the same category he won the awards for Miss Evers' Boys. Also in 1996 he bagged an award for the Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture in recognition of his work in Higher Learning
He was nominated for an Academy Award as well, in 1994 for the movie ‘What's Love Got to Do with It’ in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role. He won a Black Movie award for ‘Akeelah and the Bee’ in 2006 in the category Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, although he was nominated for another category for the same film in the category Outstanding Motion Picture (Producer) as well.
In 2000, he was nominated as the Best Actor during Black Reel Awards for the movie The Matrix. In 2007 he was nominated in the categories Best Supporting Actor, Best Motion Picture [Producer] for Akeelah and the Bee.
